Noble fir has the stiffest limbs of any Christmas tree species, which is why the same boughs end up in most commercial wreaths and garlands. The needles are blue-green, short, and turn upward to expose the branch beneath, giving the tree its characteristic layered look.
Most nobles are grown in Oregon and Washington and shipped south, so a noble on a California lot is usually pre-cut. Ask when it was cut — a fresh noble will hold needles past New Year, but one cut in early November will not.
Best for: Very heavy ornaments, and anyone who wants boughs left over for a wreath.
