Also sold as concolor fir. The blue-green needles and citrus scent make it the most distinctive tree on most California farms.
White fir has the best needle retention of the common western species and one of the more unusual smells — crush a needle and you get citrus rather than resin. The needles are longer than most firs, up to three inches, and curve upward, which gives the tree a soft silvery cast in the right light.
The spacing between branch whorls is wider than a Douglas fir, so there is real room to hang ornaments deep in the tree rather than only on the outer surface. If you decorate with a lot of glass, this is the better buy.
Best for: Anyone putting the tree up early, or decorating with heavy ornaments.
